Ubiquitin ligases in immune system attack of melanoma

The Ronai lab has been studying the role of ubiquitin ligases Siah2 and RNF5 in tumor biology, with focus on changes that are primarily elicited in tumor cells, which determine their propensity to develop, progress, metastasize and resist therapy (PNAS 2008, Cancer Cell 2010, Cancer Cell 2013, Cell Reports 2015, Cancer Cell 2015). More recent studies have focused on the possibility that these ubiquitin ligases may be also engaged in the control of tumor immunity, altering immune cell recognition and attack of the tumors. With focus on melanoma, data will be presented for the role of Siah2 and RNF5 in regulation of immune cell components responsible for melanoma growth control and possible mechanisms that underlie such regulation.
