Pierre Dupuy is awarded a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral individual scholarship to study the molecular mechanisms of resistance to metal stress in Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the causative agent of tuberculosis (TB), kills 1.5 million people each year. A main challenge to eradicating TB is the development of effective and affordable treatments that could reduce treatment times and the emergence of drug-resistant strains of M. tuberculosis. A better understanding of the physiology of M. tuberculosis and its interactions with its host cells, the macrophages, could help to advance in this direction.

M. tuberculosis is highly adapted to survive inside human macrophages, in which it faces multiple stresses, including intoxication by transition metals. In September 2022, P. Dupuy will join the laboratory of O. Neyrolles where he will combine microbiology and molecular biology approaches with high resolution single particle tracking, lipidomics and proteomics to understand the role of metallo-chaperones essential for the resistance of M. tuberculosis to metal poisoning. This work will generate important insights into the new concept of metal efflux platforms in bacteria.

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), part of Horizon Europe, are the European Union’s flagship programs for funding doctoral education and postdoctoral training of researchers.
