Carlo Arrelano, resident at the Toulouse Hospitals, is awarded one of the Hélène Starck Prizes of the ARC Foundation for Cancer Research

Within the framework of its research on infectious diseases and cancer, the IPBS regularly welcomes medical residents for their MSc in the context of a so-called “Research Year”. Carlo Arrelano, a future gynecological surgeon, did his MSc in Surgical Sciences and New Technologies in the team “Microenvironment, Cancer and Adipocytes” directed by Prof. Catherine Muller-Staumont under the supervision of Prof. Charlotte Vaysse and Dr. Frédérique Fallone and with a thesis student from the team, Mrs. Marie Rebeaud. The objective of his work was to study the metabolic dialogue between breast adipocytes and tumor cells in triple-negative breast cancer. His work highlighted the metabolic heterogeneity of triple-negative breast cancers and showed that some of them used the lipids released by the adipocytes to promote tumor progression.

The Hélène Starck Prizes are awarded every year to MSc students, PhD students and post-doctoral fellows funded by the ARC Foundation for their research work.
