Official launch of the Franco-Indian International Research Network MIRA: Toulouse delegation’s visit in India from March 5 to 7, 2024

As part of the international research network (IRN) MIRA (Emerging Infectious Diseases and Antibiotic Resistance) , a Toulouse delegation composed of Olivier Neyrolles ( coordinator of the IRN, director of the IPBS), Patrice Polard (director of the LMGM-CBI) and Isabelle Saves (responsible for international cooperation of the CBI and the IPBS) went to Bangalore, in India, from March 5 to 7, 2024 to participate in a Franco-Indian scientific symposium marking the official launch of the IRN.
Organized by partners the Indian Institute of Science of Bangalore (IISc) and the National Center for Biological Sciences of Bangalore (NCBS), the symposium was inaugurated on March 5 by Prof. Usha Vijayraghavan, dean of the Biological Sciences division of IISc, and Mr. Thierry Berthelot, Consul General of France in Bangalore, who highlighted the crucial role of international cooperation in the fight against emerging or re-emerging infectious diseases in a context of global changes. Aware of the solidity of the MIRA network, to which they provide their full support, they both encouraged the scientists in their joint approach. Dr. Srini Kaveri, representative of the CNRS in India, testified to the importance of India in the international partnerships developed by the CNRS, also pointing out the expectations in the areas of the fight against infectious diseases. and antibiotic resistance.

Over 3 days, the 20 researchers from 11 Indian public and private institutions* and the 4 Toulouse institutes represented (IPBS, LMGM as well as IRSD and Infinity) presented their research work and their cooperation projects. Discussion sessions on the next avenues of development of the IRN and on the program of the bilateral workshop which will take place in Toulouse in November 2024, as well as working sessions with IISc students and laboratory visits were also held. been organized.

While waiting for the upcoming workshop at the end of 2024, the partners have decided to set up a series of Franco-Indian webinars which will make it possible to maintain the links and the dynamics created during the Bangalore symposium while expanding the network to other potential partners.
