Wendy Le Mouëllic was awarded the first jury prize in the ‘Ma Thèse en 180 secondes’ (MT180) national competition

On June 5, Wendy Le Mouëllc won the first jury’s prize at the MT180 2024 national competition, held in the magnificent setting of the Nice Opera House.

Wendy is a doctoral student in Olivier Neyrolles’ laboratory. Her thesis topic, “Characterization of Sulfur Acquisition Pathways and Cysteine Biosynthesis in Mycobacterium tuberculosis During Infection” enables her to study the links between virulence and metabolism in the tuberculosis bacillus.

In particular, she seeks to understand how the bacillus acquires sulfur, an essential element for its growth, and how these sulfur sources enable it to resist various stresses encountered during infection, particularly hypoxia and oxidative stress. The aim of her work is to identify new points of vulnerability in the bacillus, which could be exploited for the development of new drugs.

The world final of the 2024 competition will take place on November 21 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
