Lung Immunometabolic Networks Regulating Infection to M. tuberculosis and HIV

This seminar explores how mitochondrial metabolism and macrophage-T cell communication shape protective lung immunity to tuberculosis, and why people living with HIV remain more susceptible to TB despite antiretroviral therapy.
Jyothi Rengarajan is Professor of Medicine at Emory University and Co-Director of the Emory/Georgia Tuberculosis Research Advancement Center. She earned her BSc at St. Xavier's College, Bombay University, her MS at Carnegie Mellon University, and her PhD at Harvard University, followed by postdoctoral research at the Harvard School of Public Health. Her laboratory studies how Mycobacterium tuberculosis evades host immunity and how HIV co-infection alters immune protection. Combining experimental models with clinical collaborations, her work informs the development of TB vaccines, host-directed therapies, and diagnostic biomarkers.
